This is an irrecoverable damage. Following are a few methods through which one can improve his/her mobile phone battery life:

Turn your phone off when not in use, when no signal is available or at least 5 minutes for every day. This can effectively reduce heat caused by the battery and hence increase battery life.
Adjust the brightness to satisfy your eyes’ needs, higher the brightness more the consumption.
Remove keypad tones that buzz on pressing a key.
Reduce the backlight time of your phone to keep it minimal. In a basic mobile after making and receiving phone calls it is backlight that takes up the rest of the battery.
Vibration takes up a huge amount of battery; use it in places like malls that are crowded and the ringtone can’t be heard amidst the noise.
Switch off the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi receivers when not in use. When kept on it continuously keeps searching for devices and hot spots respectively.
Animations and screensavers are the next source of battery usage. This eye candy should be put off in order to expect a better battery life.
In smart phones, stop background applications that are not required.
Some phones have a battery/power saver mode, turn it on. It is the manufacturer’s default setting to improve battery life.
Do not charge the phone as and when required, charge at intermittent days for 3 or 4 hours daily.

It is always advisable to carry a spare battery in hand. Every battery has a recharge cycle, for example if the manual mentions “400 recharge cycles”, it can be charged and discharged 400 times. Always use a genuine battery, non-genuine batteries reduce the standby time and cause damages to the phone. See to that the charger used is the charger specified to the phone/battery, can different charger can cause a short circuit or cause the battery to leak or bloat. Finally, when a battery is not going to be used for a week or more, store it in a cool and dry place away from heat and heavy metals. Remember that the battery always keeps discharging, even when not in use.
